Error establishing a database connection

  • Unknown's avatar

This morning I changed my ftp username and password on my hosts site, because I couldn’t remember my password, and I just wanted an easier to remember user name. I am in the process of backing up my files with filezilla right now, and it is connecting with my content fine.

When I try to access my blog I get the message:
    -Error establishing a database connection

When I try to access dashboard the message explains it further.
    -Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at lal1304812022852.db.10549970.hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

*so I am pretty sure the problem is a result of my changing my ftp username and password. How do I remedy this, if I do not know my old password? I do know my old username…
