Error message after name server change

  • Unknown's avatar

I ended up using a wordpress.com account without knowing that I wouldn’t be able to do many many things that a wordpress.org account does. I switched over 2 days ago. The steps I took on WordPress.com was I deleted my domains assuming this would be all I needed to do to here. I set up my self hosted wordpress.org account through HostGator and changed the name servers on GoDaddy. However I continue to receive this message when trying to load my site in the browser:
Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.
When I was deleting my site off wordpress.com, I had to remove the domain mapping upgrade to delete the site. So how do I get out of this??
    Thanks for your assistance!

Thanks timethief. I was unaware of this tag.
I have made some changes elsewhere in an attempt to correct the issue. Perhaps it is working itself out as time goes by because I can now see the site from a different IP.
First I went to my search console and removed the https versions of my site of which one was my primary domain. Now only http versions are being picked up by search console and it looks like my Google verification worked as well there.
I’m also in the process of changing all the links in my site to remove any references to https.
Here’s hoping that and DNS propagation are my friend in the next 24 hours. It’s been almost 48 already.

  • Hi there,

We have no more control over your domain. The moment you set the name servers away from us, we lost all control over it.

This can be due to the name server change still propagating, but the old location of the link could also be stuck in your browser. Try clearing your browser cache, and you might also need to flush your computer’s DNS cache. Then you should see the domain pointing to the correct site.
