Hello, I’m getting an error message each time I try to access my site. I try to access through Jetpack and it says that Jetpack isn’t connected or can’t access my page. Here is an example of the error message I get when I try to logon:

Fatal error: Cannot declare class WP_REST_Navigation_Fallback_Controller, because the name is already in use in /home/customer/www/crackedpotsandbrokenvessels.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/gutenberg/lib/experimental/class-wp-rest-navigation-fallback-controller.php on line 0

I went through the steps on ‘Why is my Site Down?’ troubleshooter and had no success diagnosing or fixing any plugin issues because I can’t access that through logging in to WordPress.com nor through JetPack. I’ve tried the steps suggested to reconnect my JetPack, but the options to do so aren’t there.

Previous attempts to contact support have instructed my to disable Gutenburg, but I can’t since I can’t access my dashboard. The link in the statement, ‘If you’re unable to access these sections of your site, contact us here, and we’ll be happy to deactivate the faulty plugin or theme for you,’ brings me right back here to the support page again.

Update #3 (or 4, I’ve lost count now) I was instructed to click a link to contact wordpress.com support directly, but that link did not work ‘Page Not Found’

Tried the next two links to Contact support directly and to go direct to the support page and those links didn’t work either, even after clearing browser cache.

This is the last message I received:

    ‘Quick response:
It seems like you’re experiencing a critical error on your WordPress.com site and you’re unable to access your dashboard to troubleshoot the issue. One possible solution is to try deactivating the plugin causing the problem, which in this case, is Gutenberg.

Since you’re unable to access your dashboard, you can contact WordPress.com support directly for assistance. Here is a direct link to contact support: Contact us here.

Explain your situation and mention that you’re unable to access your dashboard due to the critical error caused by the Gutenberg plugin. The support team will be able to deactivate the faulty plugin or theme for you and help resolve the issue.

If the link doesn’t work, you can try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. If the issue persists, you can try reaching out to WordPress.com support through their general contact page: WordPress.com General Contact Page.’

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

A recent change to wordpress basically copied the WP_REST_Navigation_Fallback_Controller class from Gutenberg. I was able to access the filesystem, so I went to my /wp-content/plugins/ directory and renamed gutenberg to gutenberg-bad which disabled the plugin. Then I was able to login and access the plugins screen. I updated the gutenberg plugin (which correctly renamed the gutenberg-bad directory). I had to reload the page to get the correct “activate” link because it pointed to -bad, but after a reload I was able to activate.

    Hey there,

As mentioned, on these forums, we can only assist with WordPress.com related issues. Therefore, I wanted to remind you about the option to migrate your WordPress site to our servers.

The content alone can be moved by exporting from Tools > Export, and then imported as per these steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ (Tools import). To get the storage you need, and to be able to use a custom primary domain, a paid plan would need to be in place: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Alternatively, a site can be migrated into WordPress.com, as is – including all content, themes and plugins. We make the migration process easy with the WordPress.com Migration plugin, which you can find at this link: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/.

A site being migrated into WordPress.com using this plugin would require a WordPress.com Business Plan.

We provide a fully managed hosting service with a custom server environment, specifically optimized for WordPress. This means you’ll benefit from built-in security measures, performance improvements, and in-house support to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Migrating your site to WordPress.com may initially seem like a daunting task, but the advantages of our fully managed hosting service outweigh the effort involved. With our optimized server environment and tailored version of WordPress, you’ll have access to the best possible hosting service for your WordPress website.

However, if you decide not to migrate your site to WordPress.com, don’t worry! We still want to ensure you receive the help you need. The open-source WordPress forums are available to provide support, where you can connect with experts in WordPress who are well-equipped to assist you with any issues you may encounter.

We hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you for considering WordPress.com as your hosting solution!
