Error message–can't save changes

Thanks. Will wait to hear back. I’m going a little crazy here because I’m trying to use the site to promote a book and this draft status problem has become pretty persistent.
-
Any ideas on this? Here’s another that reverts to draft status. Notice that when I view the entry, it says it was posted with today’s date. But when I look at the list of posts in the back end, it correctly shows that I want it to post with a 1977 date. How is this possible?
-
Hey Jeff,
I’ve verified that our developers are still looking in to the issue, but I don’t have an update for you quite yet. As soon as they have any additional information, either they or I will reach out to you!
I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hiya Jeff,
I have a question or two for you.
Would you be willing to try uninstalling your WordPress iOS application from your iPhone to see if that is what is causing this issue? It may be that even though you are not intending to edit the posts via the iOS app, that it is interfering with it and causing this.
Also, could you please let me know, step by step, the exact process that you take while creating and posting an article? From when you log in to the Dashboard all the way through to hitting the blue button (when it should be posting but isn’t). Please include if you have any other open tabs to WordPress open at the same time because that can absolutely make a difference!
Thank you!
-
Yes, will try to do this tonight or tomorrow night. Assume I can then reinstall without losing anything? And that I should uninstall apps from both iPhone and iPad?
I’ll also try to post something and record the process step by step. Will get back to you asap.
Thanks!
-
Yes, if you could please just uninstall the apps from your iPad and iPhone and only work off of the web interface, that would be excellent. It could narrow down where the problem is.
And everything is saved on our servers currently. Uninstalling your WordPress apps will not delete anything. When you want to reinstall them, all you’ll need to do is re-enter your username and password!
-
I uninstalled the apps and am currently not having problems with posts. Will keep experimenting and let you know if the problems recur before or after I reinstall the apps. Many thanks for your help, meanwhile.

Heya Jeff,
That’s great news! I’m thrilled to hear that it’s working for you! Let us know if it should stop working, but for now we’ll consider things sorted.
Have a great day!

Alas, the good news didn’t last. I am again having problems. I did redownload and reinstalll the app on my iPhone but again, I’m not doing anything with that except checking stats. You asked for exact steps I follow. I’ve tried several procedures but here’s one sequence that produced the problem:
1. Click on new post
2. Select text post
3. Type text directly into box
4. Click on insert photo and add photo from hard disk
5. Click on Save draft
6. Click on Preview
7. Click on Edit this entry
8. Select Category and a past date for publication
9. Click Publish
10. Status now says Published and it says “Post Published” in upper left
11. Click on view post
12. Post appears but with today’s date
13. Click on edit entry. It shows the old date but again says status is draft
14. Click on Publish again.
15. Click on site name to go to home page. Story is not listed in archives
16. In dashboard, click on list of posts. Post is listed as a draft again.
17. Click on quick edit. Change status to Published and click update.
18. On list of posts, it again says 0 drafts, but when I go to home page, I see story is not in archives. Returning to list of posts I see it’s again marked as a draft.
At the moment, there are two posts labeled as draft that keep reverting to draft status after I publish them.
Please help! This is driving me crazy. -
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for giving me the step-by-step break down.
Given that you have redownloaded the iphone/ipad app, could you try removing it again and see if the problem goes away again?
-
Yes, will re-uninstall the apps and experiment with this over the next few days and get back to you. Thanks.
-
Hi,
I uninstalled the apps but the problem hasn’t gone away. Some posts still revert to draft status after being published. Eventually, after numerous re-publishing, I find they stay published; but when I post something new and publish it, I can never be sure it really is. Most of the time, I’ll return to the site, find it missing, check the list of posts and see it back on the drafts list. Help!!
-
Hiya Jeff,
Thanks for giving that a try. I’ve put this back in front of our developers with all of your steps which you provided us earlier and they are going to take a look at it. I’ll let you know as soon as I have any additional information!
-
Hey Jeff,
Our developers have been working on your issue, and they asked me to get a hold of you with another question.
When you provided the steps that you take when making posts, you said that you:
5. Click on Save draft
6. Click on Preview
7. Click on Edit this entryWhen you click on Preview, this opens a new tab. If you are editing in that new tab while the original tab is open (effectively working in multiple editing pages), that could be what is causing this issue.
Could you try making sure that you are only using one tab at a time by closing the preview tab once you’re done looking over the post and going back to the original page to publish?
Let me know how this works for you!

That doesn’t appear to be the problem. First of all, When I’m in Preview, I click Edit this entry, which takes me to the editing screen. At that point, it appears that there is only one tab open–opening the editing screen appears to close the Preview screen.
Also: This problem occurs with no involvement of the Preview screen. Often I open Safari, go to my site and see that a post isn’t showing up. So I go to dashboard, to the list of posts and see that one is labeled draft. I click on Edit or Quick Edit, change the status to Published and click on Update. It now says published. But a few minutes later I find it’s a draft again. In this situation, I haven’t gone to a preview screen at all.
-
I may have been premature in making my above comment about tabs not being at fault. I’ve been taking pains to make sure only one tab is open after I preview and have not been having a problem. Will let you know if it recurs. Thanks!
