error message import posterous xml file

I have read and am following the instructions for transferring my posterous xml file. I have chosen the file under tools/import and then I consistently get a message saying it has to be an xml file. which it is.: file name is: wordpress_export_1.xml Please help me I am going crazy. does it matter that the blog was private when I downloaded it? susannadana

You cannot upload a zip file. Posterous sends you a .zip file which you need to open to retrieve the files inside. Per the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/ you’ll need to upload the wordpress_export_1.xml file, not the one you tried to import. that is exactly the file I tried to import. I put it in my question. : and yes I followed the directions, read all the support on this subject. but I get an error message in trying to upload for the file: wordpress_export_1.xml file.
