Error message RESTORE BACK UP
-
Whenever I compose a new post, this message pops on the top of the screen, saying that there is a different version in the back up – offering to restore it… And that of course, is not correct.
Anybody knows if there is some glitch in the system? It’s been happening for a few days now

It happens in ANY post that I try to compose or to edit – so right now I have one post waiting to go live at midnight – if I edit it, it will pop up this message of a version different from this one in the backup, and offering me to restore it.
First time I noticed was about 3 weeks ago, so that I would say would be for my last 6 latest articles or so, as I usually publish one new post every 4 days…
-
Ok. Are you working from the app or browser? Which type and version number?
If you can capture a screen shot of the message that’d be helpful too. Add that to your media library and I’ll be able to take a look.
Are you forced to restore the previous version of the post? Or are you able to dismiss it?
-
I just dismiss it.. I mean, I ignore it and move on…
I have a screenshot already, but was not sure how to attach it here
-
Can you tell me the steps you take when creating a new post? It sounds like you’re just being notified that the post was previously saved. This is expected.
-
I should mention I never use the “new and improved” way to compose a post because since the beginning I thought that was much worse than the “old ways”
I go through this page to compose a new post
https://bewitchingkitchen.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
and it does not indicate that it is saved as it did before, it acts as if there is a version that I modified and forgot to save, so it offers me to restore BACk to that… very odd indeed
-
HA! Little did I know… it doesn’ t seem to be doing that anymore….
I just tried to edit a post I have in preparation and it did not do that…
-
Well then, mystery solved :) I’m going to keep this open in case you have further issues. Just come back to this thread and send an update. It will make it’s way to to me.
-
well, the gremlins are back at work… same thing last night and this morning
it’s not really a big deal, I can work around it, in fact I now ignore it so much I don’t notice anymore… ;-) But there’s definitely something odd going on

per your suggestion, I tried Chrome – it “seems” that it doesn’t happen using Chrome, but it’s too early to tell
I don’t have a new post being prepared yet, but will work on one very soon – will do it in Chrome and see what happens
thank you!
(and Happy V-day, if you celebrate…)
-
Keep me posted about how things work in Chrome. I’m curious.
I hope you had a lovely Valentine’s day <3

Ok here I am… From my observations with making the new post, it does NOT happen in Chrome
interestingly enough, I started the post on Chrome, after one or two revisions I opened the browser in Safari and continued on it – did about 6 revisions without any problem, any pop up offering to restore to the backup version – then it started, and from the first time this error happens, it will happen every single time.
Moving back to Chrome – no problem, it just seems to be something linked to Safari, but it happens after a few times of saving a version…
I would need more “scientific” approaches to gather more info on the problem, but maybe that’s enough to start?
again, no big deal, I can work around it – but if you find that it’s intriguing enough to investigate, go for it!
thanks again for your help!
