Error message to change the DNS Zone File

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Hi want that my Domain points to a site hosted by another hosting provider, I have to modify the DNS.

I get the following message when trying to modify the DNS Zone file in the Domain Manager : “The zone file is unavailable because the domain’s set nameservers do not belong to this registrar”.
If I modify DNS in My Domains, by putting the following sentence in the textfield, as requested by my host :
“TXT @=768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4”, it doens’t work, I get the following message in the settings of my host :
“DNS modification – You don’t have sufficient rights to modify the DNS zone file for the ‘julessabbotte.com’ virtualhost.”

    Thank you very much,

    – Jules

  • Can you show me the instructions your hosting provide gave you for pointing a domain to their servers?

    Hi Rootjosh,

    Thank you for your reply.

    The instructions were to add
“@ in TXT @=768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4” in the DNS text file. What I did on the “My Domains – Custom DNS Records” page.

Now I get the following error message from my host when trying to declare the new address :
“DNS modification – You don’t have sufficient rights to modify the DNS zone file for the ‘julessabbotte.com’ virtualhost.”

Does it help? Thank you very much for your help!

    Jules

  • I am going to try using just TXT 768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4 and seeing if that makes a difference.

Let me know if things are working.

Too bad it did not work. This actually bring me back the original message I had on the side of my host :
    “Error:
Address (vhost) – Your domain name is not at Gandi or you are not logged in under a Gandi handle with sufficient rights to it. You must first log in and add a TXT type entry in the zone file of your domain name julessabbotte.com with the following value:

    @ IN TXT @=768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4

Alternatively, you can use validation by file, by adding a text file at this address: http://julessabbotte.com/768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4.txt that only has the following content: 768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4.
DNS modification – You don’t have sufficient rights to modify the DNS zone file for the ‘julessabbotte.com’ virtualhost.”

    When I put “TXT @=768f4ccb9953e8f813cb314bc5a8d2c4”,
I just get the second error message : “DNS modification – You don’t have sufficient rights to modify the DNS zone file for the ‘julessabbotte.com’ virtualhost.”

Do you know what is it?

    Thank you very much,

    Jules

  • Typically, TXT files are typically used to set up email for a domain. Not as a redirect method.

If you are trying to point your WordPress.com purchased domain to a new webhost, using nameservers or a custom A-Record would be a more typical way to do it.

You might also consider transferring your domain registration to your new webhost in order to make the whole thing easier:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

Thank you for your reply I have contacted my web host to know if one of these two options is possible.

  • Excellent. Let me know what you find out.

Indeed adding the A-Record was the way to go (what my host forgot to specify in their first message…)
So now it works… except that it seems that WordPress allow adding a A-Record for a subdomain only, so
    “A www 173.246.99.14” works but not “A @ 173.246.99.14”
… if there is no other way, I guess we will live with it for the time being but will have to transfer the domain eventually.

Thank you again for your help!

  • I should be able fix that for you. We have a different method for setting up A Records. Give me a few minutes and I’ll report back.

  • Okay, I should have that set.

Let me know. It may take a bit for it to start working properly.
