Error msg when trying to upload photos

    I cannot add images to my wordpress blog. When using IE, I can browse for the image and then click upload but I get this message:
    SPECIFIED FILE FAILED UPLOAD TEST.
    I’ve tried optimizing, saving for the web, and a number of different files – none worked.

    When using Firefox, I don’t even have the option to browse. The only button says CHOOSE FILES TO UPLOAD – but when I click on it, nothing happens.

    I’m fairly new to this so I’m sure I’m missing something – I just don’t know what. By the way, I have wordpress version 2.5 (and I don’t know how to update to 2.6.5 without losing all my work…).

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
