error: not enough space to upload photographs
-
I have written just over 200 blogs and include a lot of photographs and video links – yesterday I had an error message saying there was not enough space to upload. All of the information I have found on how to resolve the issue is very ‘techie’ and I’m not….but I love doing the blog and don’t really want to lose the old ones. I started to upload photos to the media library, can I delete all the photos in there and release space and if I do will that mean they no longer appear in the earlier blogs.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello
I love doing the blog and don’t really want to lose the old ones. I started to upload photos to the media library, can I delete all the photos in there and release space and if I do will that mean they no longer appear in the earlier blogs.
Yes, you could delete the old photos, BUT if you delete them they will no longer be available for viewing in your posts.
So your options are
1) delete the old images, meaning they will be unavailable to the posts they are associated with
2) Optimize the images, so they take up less room. That would be time consuming, but better than not having them.
3) Purchase an upgraded plan for additional storage spaceAnd as you add images, you might consider optimizing them so any new images do not take up as much space.

Hi Dave…thank you so much.
I have taught myself how to use WP without reading any guides or tutorials.I received your email just as I was reading how to delete images…I have a lot of duplications so that will be my first step and then optimizing. …
will I be able to optimize in bulk ( no doubt there will be lengthy instructions on how to optimize???)…
Once again thank you so very much…I was in danger of trying to follow some very complicated technical advice!!!!

Hello again.
Deleting duplicates is a great start!
There are some bulk image optimization tools out there that work on an entire folder of images at a time. You would have to either download all the images from your Media Library, or if you still have the images in your computer, you could optimize them then upload the optimized results. If you do have the images still in your computer, once the optimized batch is ready, you could delete all of the images in your medial library at once with the Bulk Actions as discussed on page 2 of:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/
then upload them, drag and drop might be the quickest way to do this, as discussed in page 1 of that same document.Applying the same procedure to many images may not produce consistent results throughout the entire result as far as perceived quality is concerned. I have not experimented with any of them so you may want to do some research before you try one.
Hope that helps!
