Error on home page

  My home page shows an error. When people first land on my blog domain jonruffell.wordpress.com they get an error message “Not found
  Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”

  I have made all sorts of page deletes and I have even created new blog pages to see how I created this error. In short, I’d like the landing page not to show and error and can’t see how I can change this. There are two options that I think will help me. Re-set my blog profile so that I can start again (I have exported all my posts) or help me restore the page so people don’t see the error when they first land on the page. I really don’t want to change my url address to jonruffell2 etc.

  You deleted the placeholder Hello World post and as soon as you publish a post not a page and the error message will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

  By default the front page of your blog displays all posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of the blog appeared because the Admin of the blog deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

  Then you made your About page a static front page but you failed to create a page for posts to display on.

  By default this is the front page of your blog http://jonruffell.wordpress.com/ and it’s the page that all posts, not pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ will display on.

  If you want to change that to a static front page then you must create two Pages. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

  One will be for the front Page titled whatever you want like Welcome, for example and one will be for your posts to display on, titled for example, Posts.

  After you do that then you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
