Error Opening File in Audio Player
-
Hi,
I’ve read through all the forums regarding this and there must be something I’ve missed. I’m trying to use the Word Press Audio Player to no avail. It continually says “Error opening file” on the tracks I try to load.
My blog is here:
http://morbidtourist.wordpress.com/
The track I’m trying to load is:
[audio src="http://morbidtourist.wordpress.com/files/2008/12/04-teenagers.mp3" /]
Thank you for your help.

As I can see in the source code of your page, you’ve written
[audio = URL_HERE]
instead of
[audio URL_HERE]
or
[audio=URL_HERE] -

The code you’re using looks like this, right?
[audio http://morbidtourist.wordpress.com/files/2008/12/04-teenagers.mp3]It works for me:

Hmmm. I can play yours. I thought that might mean it’s a browser issue. I’ve been using Safari 3.2.1. But I just tried it on Firefox on a Mac and a PC, and still no luck. My edit window looks the same as yours. Could it be something in settings? Again, thanks for your patience and help.

By analyzing your source code, it seems you’re writing the player code like this:
[audio== http://morbidtourist.wordpress.com/files/2008/12/04-teenagers.mp3]I added a second player using the code above and it won’t play the .mp3 file.
Also, I compared the code of my second player with yours and they look identical.
Mine:
soundFile=%3D%20http%3A%2F%2Fmorbidtourist.files.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F12%2F04-teenagers.mp3Yours:
soundFile=%3D%20http%3A%2F%2Fmorbidtourist.files.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F12%2F04-teenagers.mp3Notice this: %3D%20 that represents an equal sign and a space. The parser is reading that as though (as I said before) you’re writing your flash player code like this:
[audio== http://morbidtourist.wordpress.com/files/2008/12/04-teenagers.mp3]Double check your code to make sure you don’t have 2 equal signs or no equal signs at all…
-
Hmm. It’s as if it’s creating that double equals against my will! :)
My code in the edit window looks nothing like that. It’s just one equal sign. I’ve also tried with just a space. No dice. This is really frustrating. I’ve combed the forums and made sure I’m not doing the same mistakes as other people with this problem. I’m at a loss.
-
BTW, also make sure there’s no space on both sides of the equal sign (as panaghiotisadam said), because that will also produce the %3D%20 mentioned above.
-
would you post here what code you’re using? Maybe another set of eyes can see what’s going on.
enclose your code in backticks (`)
-
I think I got it! I didn’t realize that you have to hit “update post” b/f you will get an accurate preview of it. I assume that’s been the problem most recently. Thanks for your patience in dealing with such a newbie!
