Error Updating plugins

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
When trying to update plugins on my site, i’m getting the an error message.
It doesn’t matter which plugin I try, they all give the same error eventually. Can someone advise what’s causing this or how i can investigate it myself and fix it?
Prior to this I have updated the WordPress version to the current one (5.3), and it seems to have updated properly – says I’m using the current version but I’m not so sure how to check properly.
I’m also now getting this error:
The plugin better-wp-security/better-wp-security.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.
    Error Message:
    Update Failed: 504 Gateway Time-out 504 Gateway Time-out nginx/1.15.8

  • Hi there!

I’m afraid that, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with another company.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You can find help with your question at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
