Error when trying to change url

    Hello, so I was trying to change my url from totiltwithwindmills to ellornaslibrary as I am ‘rebranding’ (so to speak) and I wanted my blog to match my other social media when I start blogging again. However, something happened and now it is showing ellornaslibrary as a separate website and is asking me which one I want set as my primary website. How do I fix this so that I can just have the url of my current blog(this one) adjusted and no secondary site? I don’t want to have to start my blog over and lose everything. . .

    Hi there!

    I’ve checked our logs to see what happened, and it appears a new site was created with the new address. Do you remember if you went to the ‘create new site’ page instead of following the instructions for changing the site address?

    In any case, when there’s an existing site with the address you want, that address can’t be used when changing the site address. This means you won’t be able to change the address of your existing site to ellornaslibrary.wordpress.com because this address is already in use.

    There are a few ways you can proceed.

    1. You can choose a different address and follow the instructions here.
    2. You can upgrade to a WordPress.com plan and register a custom domain (like ellornaslibrary.com or something similar.)
    3. You can export all content from the old site and import them into your new site.

    The third option might be preferable if you want to keep using the new address with the old site’s content. But I’d suggest giving the first two options a thought. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about them.

    When I was changing the url I did click create new site, but I didn’t realize what I did until after it did it and by then it seems like I can’t fix the issue which is why I’m posting here. I don’t really have the money to afford the custom domain option. My funds are limited and life is expensive at the moment. I thought I could just delete the new one and change the old one to this name, but it says that I can’t apparently do that. . . So how do I go about option 3, I guess?

    Hi! Option three would indeed be your best bet, in that case; the URL of a deleted site can’t be re-used again.
