Error with Cats

  • Unknown's avatar

I created a cat by mistake called ‘2018’.

When I try to delete it, for some reason it appears in the list without a checkbox. Therefore I cannot check it to delete.

I thought maybe the year term ‘2018’ might be conflicting with the built-in chronological orderer, so I renamed it ‘catwillnotdel’.

However, not only did that not work, but now on the Categories page, the standard ‘Note advisory’ at bottom of page now reads as this…

    Note:
Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category catwillnotdel.

    >> Assigned to the category CATWILLNOTDEL ???

Please help me with this. I just want the cat deleted and this buggingness fixed.

    Thank you very much…

    Hi there,

    Note:
Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category catwillnotdel.

Above note should be like below,
    Note:
Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category Uncategorized

It looks like you had renamed ‘Uncategorized’ category to 2018 and later renamed it to catwillnotdel.

    Solution,
Rename the category without checkbox to ‘Uncategorized’ and delete the category which you wish to get rid of. Then all posts under that category(the one you deleted) will be assigned under ‘Uncategorized’.

Let me know if you have more questions. I am happy to help.

Well that wasn’t what I did… however, I renamed “catwillnotdel” to “Uncategorized”… then deleted it…

… but doing that has given me a duplicate “Uncategorized” without a checkbox.

Or… is that how it’s meant to be? I see the advisory text reads right.

    Hi,

but doing that has given me a duplicate “Uncategorized” without a checkbox

You can not delete a category which is without a checkbox. Ideally, the name of such a category without checkbox should be “Uncategorized”, this avoids confusion.

You were trying to delete category “2018”? Can you try now if it is allowing you to delete the same?

Cat “2018” became “catwillnotdel”, which I renamed “Uncategorized” and then deleted it.

I now have 1 cat without checkbox also called “Uncategorized” (because there was already one when I renamed the other) … but I think thismeans we’ve fixed it.

    Am I right? Thanks mate.

If you have deleted categories which you wanted to get rid of then yes you have fixed it. :)

Not sure why I am still seeing 2018 on ‘ANNUM’ page on yllwchlk.wordpress.com

    That page probably reads…

    2019… 2018…

It is my own page of making a calendar, because my style and package doesn’t seem to provide as many modules as there were a few years back.

Like for example no tag cloud or cat menu.

    Thanks!
