Espied: Portfolio problems

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there

    After testing my website https://twoviewsnz.wordpress.com/ in various different browsers I have the following queries:

    1. in Firefox on any of the portfolio pages the bottom right tile takes forever to appear, though on Google Chrome and Safari works perfectly fine

    below are links to the portfolio pages
    https://twoviewsnz.wordpress.com
    https://twoviewsnz.wordpress.com/project-type/we-love/
    https://twoviewsnz.wordpress.com/project-type/equestrian-world/

    2. when you have clicked onto a tile (which takes you to it’s own page with a wee blurb and full size image) if you choose to “back -space” to go back to the portfolio, SOMETIMES the portfolio titles all muddle up and do not show all 15 tiles, the urls are weird too with suffixes “…./page/2” or “…./page/3” see the screen shot examples below

    Any help would be greatly appreciated :) thanks

    Hi there,

    1. in Firefox on any of the portfolio pages the bottom right tile takes forever to appear, though on Google Chrome and Safari works perfectly fine

    I just checked your site in all three of those browsers, and it loaded at approximately the same speed (including the bottom right image) in each one.

    If you’d like to check that on your end, though, I’d recommend doing a little advanced troubleshooting in your browsers:

    In Chrome, you can go to View > Developer > Developer Tools, then click the Network tab at the top of the console that opens. Once that’s open, you can reload the page and check to see exactly how much time each element on the page (including the images) takes to load.

    In Firefox, you can go to Tools > Web Developer > Network in the Firefox menu. The Network console will open, and you can reload the page to see how much time each element takes to load.

    If you have any extensions installed in either browser, I’d recommend disabling them temporarily while you do this to make sure they aren’t interfering.

    2. when you have clicked onto a tile (which takes you to it’s own page with a wee blurb and full size image) if you choose to “back -space” to go back to the portfolio, SOMETIMES the portfolio titles all muddle up and do not show all 15 tiles, the urls are weird too with suffixes “…./page/2” or “…./page/3”

    This happens because your site is set to Scroll Infinitely (under Settings > Reading in your site’s dashboard), which loads 7 posts per page. When you navigate back to a place lower down in your list of posts (for example, the 8th post or 15th post on the page) you may end up on the second or third page in the list of posts.

    One way to resolve that is to disable the “Scroll infinitely” option in your site’s Reading settings. Then, next to “Blog pages show at most” you can choose the largest number of posts you want to have appear on a single page. That way everything will load together on one page every time you navigate back and forth between pages.

    Hi Rachel

    Great thanks very much for all your help!

    I have disabled scroll infinitely and selected 15 blog pages show at most.
    Now below the portfolio pages appears a button “older posts” can we remove this…?

    Thanks very much :)

    You’re very welcome. :)

    Sure! If you don’t want that button to appear anywhere on your site, you can use CSS like this to remove it:

    #infinite-handle {
    display: none;
    }
