Estimate traffic amount on wp.com blog
-
My blog has about 150-300 visitors per day. I want to estimate the web data traffic amount in megabytes per month.
Is this possible for a wp.com blog?
The Site Stats sections mostly shows number of views and clicks.
I’m thinking of migrating to self-hosting. I have to hotel options. The first one (cheapest) accepts 350 MB per month, to second one accepts 100 GB per month.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t use visits or page views only as any basis as you have to also account for search engines, and if you use a lot of images, then you have to up things for that as well.
My (poorly neglected) self-hosted blog gets an average of 150 visitors per day and my bandwidth usage runs about 500 to 700MB per month although I have had two months where I was averaged right at 200 page views per day and that month I was just over 1GB.
The more flash, javascript and plugins/widget you have, the higher your usage is going to be, and some themes are big bandwidth hogs as well.
I would never recommend less than 1GB of bandwidth.
-
Are you talking about bandwidth? There’s a lot of factors involved in determining bandwidth most importantly how media intense your site is.

Hi there Jennifer. You are right though, storage capacity is or can also be an issue. I’m about ready to upgrade mine again because I’m running out of storage space (too many client demo sites set up so they can keep track of what I’m doing).

Our WP blog was getting as many as 2500 hits a day – the subject matter was corrupt lawyers, corrupt public officials, corrupt judges, and the increasing amount of rapes by jail guards, along with increasing crime rates in WV.
We were suspended by WordPress when we reported on a SEX SCANDAL at a local college after it was found out all of the Board of Governors terms were expired and NONE were valid. One of the BOG members had a couple of daughters that were more than wild to say the least – and stupid enough to document the matter via cell phone shots and other camera work.
Their documented college sex parties were published, but somewhat censored. …which led to the suspension.
We are looking for a host that won’t take us down for exercising our right to free speech. Our site contained over 1 million words of data and hundreds of photo’s many we took ourselves of crime scenes or inside courtroom shot.
We noticed all of our cached files have been destroyed and every single photo that was associated with the calpattypress.wordpress.com almost, has been destroyed and or any associations with our site are now absent.
Does anyone have a suggestion where we may find a host that believes in the right to free speech? There is quite a demand for our information. We are all professionals.

If you are serious and have hard evidence I would sugest passing it to http://wikileaks.org/

Each host has their own policies and Terms of Service so you need to probably check with ones you are interested in. You could try asking at WordPress.ORG since they are all self hosted sites http://wordpress.org/support/
Everyone here has by choice chosen WordPress.COM as their host. Some hosts have a reputation of dropping you if there is anything sexy on your site (redeeming news value or not). There are many many hosts including small local and state ones as well as large ones all over the world.
Keep lots of backups of your data in case you run into problems – get your own domain name so if there is a problem and you move to a new host the name will go with you and your supporters and visitors can find you at your new site.

Thanks, thesacredpath and justjennifer.
I do have quite a bit of media on the blog so that, and also sacredpaths figures, settles it – i have to pick the more expensive hotel. To be able to self-host this blog I will need to get Adsense. Don’t see any other way

It’s extremely doubtful that at 150-300 uniques per day Adsense will pay your hosting bills.
revengeoftheghostwolf I’m afraid if you’re looking for hosting options you’re looking in the wrong place: by definition everyone here has chosen WordPress.com as a host. If staff have told you they won’t allow you to publish nude photographs belonging to people who haven’t given you their consent, then that’s final.
-
Thank you for you kind and considerate reply.
How would one go about obtaining photo’s that were nude photographs belonging to people that have not given their consent? Photos were subject to copyright –and are you not consenting when allowing the shot to be taken? …unless of course the shot was taken when “a person” was unaware–which was not the situation in this particular instance, from what I understand. But alas, a different host for a more serious investigation of misconduct with domain of one’s choosing is certainly a better choice for the more personal publication. You are correct.

We have a good lawyer and he is a federal attorney and his father is a rather famous federal attorney where we come from. We have been doing quite a lot of investigative work on several attorneys in West Virginia.
If you are looking for crooked lawyers and crooked public officials you have to look no further than central WV and you will find quite a few.
We filed a federal complaint with the US Attorney and it was accepted.
We proved on several occasions misconduct by the local law enforcement.
Our complaint was accepted and forwarded to a federal investigative agency.
I am getting together with another attorney today as it looks like we are also filing federal action in US District Court in Northern WV.
Thanks for your concern.

It’s great that you are so truthful about your obviously educated observations.
Honesty and integrity are very important attributes that you seem to be familiar with. Unfortunately honesty and integrity were left out as part of the WV Bar exam.
We have the goods on the BOG lawyers both dismissed and current. They seem to want to make up their own rules. Without their knowledge we tied them into other misconduct that was blatant and criminal. Since we spent years on “Secret tapes” (thanks to West Virginia’s one person consent law) and getting statements from former disgruntled employee’s – we gathered beau coup data on some bigger than big big fish in a slimy little pond. We handed the evidence over to the US Attorney and they were happy to get it all: tapes, (digital audio CD’s) Photo’s etc along with other documents that proved wrongdoing.
The fact that wordpress backed the wrong people is of no concern to us. It will just make for a bigger story. They (WV-Public officials)talk a good talk until you see and hear the data on them for yourself, or in a courtroom setting, then they don’t sound so upstanding and angelic.
