Eventbrite widget pulling in too much info

  • Unknown's avatar

When ‘LIST’ option is selected, the Eventbrite widget is pulling in ticket class verbiage in addition to to the name & date of the event. This makes widget very long & hard to read. The extra verbiage doe NOT show up when ‘CALENDAR’ + date of event is selected.

Sample in 1st footer widget at israeltruthweek.org. One of the tests has 3 ticket classes, all of which are showing up when the ‘LIST’ option is selected.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Mark,

Currently, when in List form the widget is acting as it should. This is what I see:

    http://d.pr/i/zPyP

As seen there is a description under the title of the Event. This is how the widget was designed. Are you seeing something else?

One of the tests has 3 ticket classes, all of which are showing up when the ‘LIST’ option is selected.

I’m not quite sure what 3 ticket classes are. Can you please explain?

    Thank you!

Thanks so much for having a look.

    1. Yes, I’m seeing exactly what you have there but…what you’re seeing in LIST view is not only the event description, as you do with the CALENDAR view; you’re also seeing the various ‘ticket types’ as Eventbrite calls them.

Ticket types are the various classes of tickets, i.e. Adult price, children’s price, senior’s price. Or, for a larger event like, say, a parade, the organizer could have many different ticket types consisting of different categories and sub-categories for marching permits, float permits, vehicle permits (check out the listing for World Pride 2014 here which has 15 different ticket types that would all show up in the widget: http://www.eventbrite.ca/e/worldpride-2014-parade-tickets-6857550117?aff=es2&rank=2)

If the Pride people were using the WP Widget on a WP site, it would go from the top of the page to the bottom, and make absolutely no sense to anyone.

For my event described as, ‘Test – Israel Truth Week Event’ I have a protest vigil + a party + I’m giving people an option to donate if they can’t come but want to support = 3 ticket types. Just those options are making the widget difficult to read in LIST mode.

My suggestion is that only the event title, date and price range should be visible, just as it is in CALENDAR mode.

    2. Another important issue: my test events are listed as private and unsearchable. I want them that way because I’m just testing, but the private function also allows me to hold private events that are not available to the public, so the widget really shouldn’t be pulling in my events at all.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for the suggestions! I have brought this back to my team for review. I’ll let you know what they say as soon as I hear back!

    Thanks!

    Hi there!

Sorry for the long wait! I just heard back and unfortunately, I have some bad news. Our developers looked into this and determined this as a won’t fix for both.

The Ticket Type has been shown for awhile now and considering that changing the style would affect everyone who has this widget, our developers determined that it wasn’t the best idea to change it.

As for the private and public events, that was looked into and it was made known that we are currently using Eventbrite’s API, which returns all events (private or not). This means that there wouldn’t be a way to sort them out.

At this time, it may be better to add your events manually into a Google Calendar and embed that into your sidebar instead:
