  I am using a free account with WordPress and am wondering how to create an event. It does not come up in my dashboard as an option either.

  Hi there,

  Have you looked at the upcoming events widget that can be added to your sidebar, or directly to a post or page via a shortcode? You create the event itself in a Google Calendar you then add to the widget:
