Everyone says we should use WordPress but…
-
I have used FrontPage 2002 for a number of sites without too much difficulty. Recently, my husband decided he wanted a site of his own for his writings and certain responses from his readers. I don’t think that this is technically a blog where posts are made and automatically entered onto the site. He wants to control the content and responses that are included.
http://www.blogitoergosum.net is the site.
I have gone to various tech groups looking for advice, and a couple of people have said I should scrap the whole thing and start over in WordPress. Actually, I started out with that idea, tried to download it from the http://wordpress.org/download site. The instructions said that in order to install it on my own system (I prefer to do my work locally and then upload as opposed t working directly on the server), I was instructed to use a program called Xampp along with the DOWNLOAD.ZIP or DOWNLOAD.TAR.GZ file. I chose the former. I went through pages and pages of tedious instructions on Xampp, each one working according to the described outcome until I reached the end. The response then was “In your browser, go to http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin-install.php and everything from there should run smoothly!”
SAD BUT NOT TRUE.
If you were a person who wanted to create a site on your own computer and simply upload the improved pages, what would you use?

TT, please don’t make folks guess.
You appear to be in the wrong forums. You need to be over at http://wordpress.org as that’s the site for the downloadable version of WordPress. This forum is for the blogs hosted here at wordpress.com and we’re running different software. As TT hints at, this is covered in teh Read me first at the head of the forums.
Hope this helps,
