After I removed a contractor from my account and changed the Admin password, he managed to get back into the account. He deleted the entire site and the domain, cancelled all services and even future payments have been disabled. This means I have no access to customer support because I don’t have a paid plan and I cannot get a paid plan because payments are disabled. I got a message from the wordpress bot saying they will not tell me why payments have been disabled. I want to know how he managed to get into my account.

I think he tricked WordPress into believing he was me. I don’t know how else he could have gained access. Now, after all the work to build the site, it’s all gone. What can I do? How can I speak with WordPress? I want to know how this is possible so I can be sure to lock down any future vulnerabilities.

We can’t help as your site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform. Best solution is to activate Two Step Verfication on your site. You can do so using your wordpress.com account – https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/ – but there are also several plugins to do so – https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/two+step/

but it was running on the wordpress.com platform. i suspect there is some information in the system about what exactly happened and I would really appreciate some help to determrine exactly what happened. If that is not possible, wordpress cannot be trusted.

it’s not running because it was removed. that’s the whole point of my issue.

That site is registered and hosted by GoDaddy; you can see so for yourself when you go to https://www.wikimemes.co/wp-login.php

So your site wasn’t running on the wordpress.com platform but was self-hosted using the open source wordpress.org. As it’s a self-hosted site, you have to take care yourself for security. You find more info in the documentation at https://wordpress.org/documentation/

At the moment, I have to agree with @staartmees that the site and domain are not hosted or registered here and that they never have been:

    https://whois-history.whoisxmlapi.com/lookup-report/1E2NQgNWR6

The domain is registered at GoDaddy and the site is hosted at SiteGround. If you have questions about your accounts at either of those companies, you’d need to use their support channels for assistance.

It’s possible there’s some wordpress.org via wordpress.com confusion here. This guide explains the differences between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

I’m still seeing a functioning site at the domain name you mentioned, so you should be able to login here. If that’s not working because the account has been deleted, I’d suggest contacting SiteGround support who may be able to help you regain access.
