Examining my billing history: payment shown through Paypal, refund through Credit Card; do I have a

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to change my blog name from wordpress.com to ‘custom.’com. I thought I had a Premium account. Now, I have checked my Billing History and I see a charge to Paypal and a refund to a credit card in March. What gives? I hate this form of ‘support’ – not a good fit for adequate, real time fix-it accountability. Might be nice for WordPress but, for usability on my end, it sucks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

You bought a new Premium Plan from us on 21 March for the site, collagethebook.wordpress.com. That is the only site in your account and you had only bought a Premium Plan, not a domain.

On the same day you appear to have emailed us. In your email you said that your intention had been to renew the upgrade on the site, willfulwriting.com, not buy a new upgrade for collagethebook.wordpress.com, so my colleague cancelled and refunded the purchase. You never replied to the email she sent you on 22 March after doing this.

From what I can see, willfulwriting.com is not registered with WordPress.com, nor has it ever been. There is a site, willfulwriting.wordpress.com, with a custom domain, collagethebook.com and a Premium Plan. That site belongs to the username, sapphireplatinum, and you need to be logged in as that username to make any changes to that site.

If you’re logged in as that username you’ll also be able to access live chat support, which is a paid service.

What I want: migrate entries from CollagetheBook.com (A Host of Golden Daffodils) to “I Just Want to Write.” Ensure the plan for which I paid is applied to that blog only (which I can’t access at the moment.) Remove blogs with Collage the Book and “Host of Golden Daffodils” and whittle this down to one, the aforementioned blog under the Platinum plan for which I paid, which I have been recently using and which I cannot now access. I count three blogs assigned to me (I know just enough to do damage!) when one will do. “I Just Want to Write” with the current 10 posts on it with the two migrated posts from “A Host of Golden Daffodils”, one user name, sstNorwalk, one URL. Possible?

  • Okay, to help with this I need you to please stick to site URLs, not site names, as the names/titles of your sites are not listed in our system.

Your username, collagethebook, owns one site, https://collagethebook.wordpress.com . That site has no upgrades.

Your username, sapphireplatinum, owns two sites:

    1) https://willfulwriting.wordpress.com – Premium plan, and the domain collagethebook.com, which is pointing to a Squarespace site (so while the domain is registered with us, it points to a site somewhere else.)

    2) https://collagethebookdotcom.wordpress.com – no upgrades

You mention the username, sstnorwalk. That username doesn’t exist – it was permanently deleted when you changed that username to collagethebook and there is no way at all to get that old username back.

What is the address of the site you cannot access? If you’re speaking of https://collagethebook.com, it’s because that site is with Squarespace, not with us. Only the domain is with us. To gain access to the site you will need to log into your account with Squarespace.

While please using the usernames and site addresses as I laid them out here, what is the end goal you’d like to reach?

OK, let’s keep at this. And please know I do appreciate this. When I went to access the blog in which I have been writing daily entries, I got this message: sstnorwalk.wordpress.com is no longer available. I am trying to get back to the blog I have been entering in daily, “I Just Want to Write”, a site name with what I thought the user name was sstNorwalk. The Squarespace site, collagethebook.com, is my WEB site and I used it as a link at the bottom of the profile page of one of the named sites. So, let me go back and look at each URL per your request: collagethebook.wordpress.com is currently protected and I have no access. willfulwriting.wordpress.com links directly to my Square Space WEB Site; collagethebookdotcom.wordpress.com contains two entries I would like to migrate to the site “I Just Want to Write”, the sole site in which I have been writing with the Platinum upgrade applied. In other words, logically in this illogical maze I have created, I would like one site, the one in which I have been writing, which also includes a pictured profile and bio, to be my sole blog site, “I Just Want to Write.” I think I now need superhuman magic to fix this.

  • When I went to access the blog in which I have been writing daily entries, I got this message: sstnorwalk.wordpress.com is no longer available.

That site was renamed to collagethebook.wordpress.com at the same time you changed the username from sstNorwalk to collagethebook. That site is showing the title, I Just Want To Write, so it’s the site you’re looking for.

collagethebook.wordpress.com is currently protected and I have no access.

That site is set to private, yes, but you’ll be able to access it if you log in as the username, collagethebook, which you were logged into when you created this thread.

I would like one site, the one in which I have been writing, which also includes a pictured profile and bio, to be my sole blog site, “I Just Want to Write.”

So you want the private site, collagethebook.wordpress.com/I Just Want To Write to be your only site?

Which username do you want to use for that site? sapphireplatinum or collagethebook?

And do I then understand correctly that you want your Premium Plan to be connected to that site instead of to https://willfulwriting.wordpress.com ?

I don’t want to complicate matters any further, but I notice you have a G Suite Email subscription on your collagethebook.com domain as well which has never been activated. That upgrade can be transferred to another user on the same site, but it can’t be moved so it’s connected to a different site. But it also doesn’t look as if you’re using it. Do you want that email upgrade?

Thank you for your reply. In reference to the above: I cannot seem to access an area on WordPress that allows me to enter the username, “collagethebook.”

Yes, I want the private site, collagethebook.wordpress.com/I Just Want To Write to be my only site. I would like the two entries from the earlier site, from January, to be migrated to this site. I would also like to have the picture profile, as opposed to the logo/flower profile included. In addition, I would like the Premium Plan to be applied to this site, username, collagethebook. (Does eliminating sstNorwalk eliminate all of my past blog entries?)

I obviously am a rank amateur – I have two e-mail addresses currently, one for private use, the other professional, and that is about all I can take! But, thank you for calling my attention to the potential upgrade.

Will I be able to change the name of the URL to eliminate the wordpress identifier?

    Thanks in advance.

In reference to the above: I cannot seem to access an area on WordPress that allows me to enter the username, “collagethebook.”

You will need to completely log out of your sapphireplatinum account first, then log back in via the WordPress.com home screen. Or you can open a different browser on your computer and log in there.

    B:

Yes, I want the private site, collagethebook.wordpress.com/I Just Want To Write to be my only site. I would like the two entries from the earlier site, from January, to be migrated to this site.

    Please follow these steps:

    1) While still logged in as sapphireplatinum, please go to the following link:

    https://collagethebookdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php?page=export-choices

    2) Click the Start Export button. That will download a file to your computer.

    3) Log in as the collagethebook, go to the link below, and upload the file that was downloaded in step 2:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/import/http://collagethebook.wordpress.com/

You’ll receive a notification when the import completes, and those posts will be on the other site.

I would also like to have the picture profile, as opposed to the logo/flower profile included.

That picture is associated with your collagethebook username, so it’s already connected to the correct site.

    C:

In addition, I would like the Premium Plan to be applied to this site, username, collagethebook.

Do you want the domain transferred to the collagethebook username as well? If so, you need to do this yourself – I literally cannot transfer a domain from one username to the other, only the username that owns a domain can do that. Transferring the domain to the other username will enable you to manage all your upgrades via one account.

You will need to do this first before I can transfer the Premium Plan to the other site. You can find instructions how to do this here:

Transfer a Domain to Another WordPress.com Account

    D:

Regarding the G Suite email, can you pleas confirm if I should cancel that for you, or also transfer it to the other username?

Does eliminating sstNorwalk eliminate all of my past blog entries?

No, all your old entries are still safe on your private site. They’re just at the new address and attributed to the new username now.

Will I be able to change the name of the URL to eliminate the wordpress identifier?

The free domain in your Premium Plan is already being used for the domain, collagethebook.com which shows your Squarespace website, but once you transfer the domain to the other account and I move the Premium Plan over for you you’ll be able to register a second domain for that site to remove the “wordpress” from the address. I’ll give you the steps to do that once we reach that point.

I know this is a lot of information, but just take it step by step and let me know if you get stuck. I’ve numbered the different sections of my reply where I asked you to do something specific, so you can use those numbers to ask questions about a specific section so we each know what the other is talking about :)
