Exceeding 3GB of images in WordPress.com
-
Hi,
I am beginning to get close to my media storage limit on wordpress.com. Is there a way to increase this limit? And if not is there a way to downsize images whilst retaining their file address?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, you have a couple of options. The first and most convenient is to upgrade to the annual Personal plan which gives you another 3GB of storage for a total of 6GB. There are other advantages to upgrading including removing all WordPress.com ads from your site and having direct access to Support via LiveChat and email. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
From that point forward, you should always resize and optimize your images before uploading them to your website. While you can edit your images in your Media Library after uploading, this actually increases your use of available storage because the original image is also saved in case you wish to revert.
Other options are to use external services like Mesh, Flickr, Facebook or Instagram and then embed the image in your post or page. One disadvantage to this is you cannot use embedded images for featured images or in Galleries. Another disadvantage is that should those services be unavailable, your image will not display on your site.
Hope that helps, but please let me know if you have any other question about this after reading those support guides.

Hi rogerfarnworth,
Is there a way to increase this limit?
Additional storage space (above 3GB) is available with our paid plans:

And if not is there a way to downsize images whilst retaining their file address?
You are currently using 2.1GB/3GB and most of the images you have uploaded are about the 200KB mark. There are a few images around the 1MB so you may want to look at optimising those:
This would work well for any new images you want to upload. Dimensions for existing images can be changed from the WP Admin dashboard (this will keep the original file URL):
https://rogerfarnworth.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
Click the image, then “Edit” and there should be an option to change the dimensions.
Let me know if you have any questions.
