Excerpt module missing

When adding or editing a new post, I am not seeing the excerpt module described at http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/
Immediately under the post editing window is a module labeled “Likes and Shares”. But that’s about it–no excerpt module is visible.
Is there possibly a way to add this to the post edit page?
My theme is Coraline, if that makes any difference

Hi there!
At the top of the screen while in the post editor you will see “screen options”
in the upper right of the screen click on it then choose “Excerpt” -
And the theme does make a difference: Coraline doesn’t support custom excerpts. See here which themes do:
