Excerpts for my Featured Posts Gallery on Academica theme

HI,
I am currently using the Featured Posts Gallery widget on Academica theme and have noticed that I cant add an excerpt to show on my home page. ( it just shows the first 4 lines of my post) I would like to just have a line of text with read more at the end. Can you please help me out?

Have you tried inserting “the more tag” into your posts to split content followed by a read more link? http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Thank you for your help and speedy response timethief, sadly it doesn’t work for the purpose of only showing an excerpt on my Featured Posts Gallery on the home page.

I have read the entries and I don’t see any means of doing what you want to do. The widget data is cached and automatically pulled from the posts. We cannot edit what the widget displays.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Its strange is it not, because being able to write an excerpt for the Feature Posts Gallery should be standard. Thanks for your help again.

The above replies are incorrect: you create your own custom excerpt by entering text in the Excerpt module of the post editor.
If you’re not seeing the Excerpt module while editing a post, click Screen Options (top right) to activate it.
