Excerpts in Feeds – "For each article in feed, show Summary" not working

  Hello,

  I’m looking to send out excerpts of my client’s blog posts in the RSS feed using the Jetpack plugin for his self-hosted site. I’m reporting it here because the setting (“For each article in feed, show Summary”) to achieve this does not work for either the free WordPress.com blog or a self-hosted version, which I’ve tested. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/

  WordPress.org support indicated that a setting for sending out excerpts in the RSS feed for the Jetpack plugin did not exist. Here -> http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-jetpack-by-wordpresscom-how-to-send-out-short-rss-updates-wjetpack

  My questions are:

  1. Is there a means to get my client’s WordPress.com blog to send out excerpts in the RSS feed?
  2. Will an update to support feed excerpts for the Jetpack plugin (for self-hosted sites) be released soon? If not, is there a workaround?
