Excerpts not working– Zoologist theme

Hello! Can someone please tell me how to fix my site? Right now excerpts aren’t working– the home page shows only whole posts (and the second post is pretty long!)
I’m using the Zoologist theme and I’ve searched the excerpts-themed WP.com articles and forum replies, but I still can’t figure out how to solve my situation (and I’m not tech savvy). I would appreciate any help, thank you!

Hey there!
If you edit your home page template, you’ll find a Query Loop Block is being used to display your posts on the home page. Use the Document Overview option to explore the blocks inside of the Query Loop, and you’ll find a Content Block. This is what tells the Query Loop to display the entire post contents. Remove the Content Block and replace it with an Excerpt Block. This will cause the post excerpt to be displayed instead of the entire post content.

Thank you for getting back to me! I’ll give it a shot tomorrow (it’s nighttime for me). Tbh I did read the excerpts article but I didn’t completely understand it. However, I will still do my best with your solution! Thanks again!

An update: I replaced the content block with the excerpt block. This seemed to fix the original problem, but caused a new problem:
1) my photos and embedded YouTube links don’t appear in the excerpts– now they only appear if you click “read more” which opens the new page. That means there is now nothing visually distinctive or enticing to advertise my blog entries.
**Can the missing photos etc. be added in someway?
2) It also also appears that my two posts are combined into one block– I don’t know how this happened, and I’m not sure how to fix it.
**Can the posts be separated going forward?My blog is : savehoustonpineywoods.org. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I fixed the missing image issue! No need to respond! (And, I’m sorry for using bolded font in the previous entry– that was a bit much).
