Excerpts only on category pages – help!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!

I am currently revamping my travel blog. I am adding destination-specific links to the menu (which link to relevant categories). To make for easy browsing, I would like it if the category/archive pages only display excerpts of my blog posts.

I am using the Hemmingway theme.

Would be very, very grateful if anybody could help with this as I am developing a bit of a headache!!

    Thank you :)

    Hello there,
Whether or not just permalinked titles, permalinked titles and excerpts, full posts, or thumbnails are displayed on dynamic Categories Pages and Archives pages is theme dependent ie. it’s coded into the template and we cannot edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/ Those dynamic pages are generated by the software at the time of publication. In the majority of themes, posts on category or other archive pages show up just as they do on the main posts page in the blog and the number displayed is also the same.

The setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.

If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.

Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. Here are the themes that do provide that feature > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410
