Excerpts, summaries and automation

    Hi all,
    I have been reading about Excerpts and they seem very similar to a summary. What I usually do is give the article to digg with few lines of the post which are also tweeted. How are excerpts different than that ?

    Going by the logic that Excerpts are same as feed summaries, is there a way of automating the excerpts so that they are on the the front page when a visitor visits any page ?

    Looking for comments, ideas thank you in advance.

    I’m not sure about tweets, but here is an article about excerpts. On wp.com, some few themes show excerpts in “Main posts page and Category/Archive pages” and a few others display excerpts only in “Category/Archive pages only.” In the other themes, the “excerpt” functions do not work.
