Excessive comments in spam queue

Just wanted to report that over the last several days I have been getting over 200 comments in my spam queue per day. I know I can ignore these and they will automatically be purged over time but it is a huge increase from a normal spam queue of about a dozen comments per day to over 200.

Hi @marymaryone, thanks for getting in touch. Spam volume can change sometimes depending on site exposure and what not. But I’m glad to hear our filters are catching it all.
Is there anything you’d like us to do?

I guess I was just wondering why there is such an uptick in my spam folder (all from someone trying to sell doxycycline) and wanted to make the WordPress staff aware of this increase in spam. Does it have anything to do with the upgrade announced on WordPress last week?

Not likely or we’d see more of a pattern. I think it’s just a coincidence. Since the comments are all being caught, I’d just let it go for a while and see whether it dies out on its own or increases.
