Excessive views (801 in 4 hours)

Ridiculous. I cannot imagine how I could possibly go from an average of around 100 views a day to 801 views for just one of my recipes (a relatively older one) in the last 4-5 hours. And it keeps climbing. As for those viewing, whereas in the past it’s usually around 1.5 to 2 views per visitor, it’s now averaging over 9.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1) How is this a problem? your blog will not go down or be hacked. It’s a problem when stats go down. It’s not a problem when they go up.
2) What do your Referrers say on the stats page? That will tell you where the hits are coming from.

It just doesn’t seem possible–as if there’s some bug (and yes, I’m computer un-savvy). All but 2 of the views originate from Yahoo Image Search, and they’re for one recipe which came out quite tasty, but not that tasty :) It’s now up to 939 views…

Then it’s related to something I reported a couple of days ago. Yahoo Image Search is apparently now ranking WP.com very highly, but only for a short period of time (in my case, two hours every day). It’s a strange thing, but not a problem. Our blogs can easily handle thousands of hits an hour. It’s a good thing.
You may want to edit that post and add a link to the top of your blog or some featured posts, in the “You may also like” style of some lists. It’s a good opportunity to gain fans. If you have fresh, relevant content then you can often retain up to 10% of your viral viewers.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to answer my call for help. It’s great to have an explanation. And I appreciate your advice on capturing some of the viewers. You’ve been incredibly helpful.
