Excessively large font in my sidebar
-
Hi all
I apologize if this is a double post, but I tried my best searching for an answer to my problem in the FAQ section, but without any luck, so I thought I’d post here :)
I’m relatively new to wordpress- actually to blogging alltogether- and was wondering about something. This may sound a bit dense (if so I apologize for that), but today I made my new second blog (www.albaahithah.wordpress.com) and chose the same theme for this one as I did for the first blog I made (www.gennemrejse.wordpress.com), but somehow it came out different. The font in the sidebar came out excessively large, whereas in my first blog, the font in the sidebar is quite normal. This (a difference in the display of the layouts of both blogs) only happens when I’m using IE though to open them (the blogs). I don’t get it- what gives?:/ I’d like both of my blogs to appear normal in IE.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance :-)

Hi there,
Did you know that no wordpress.com blogs have “www” in there urls? The actual urls for your blogs are:
http://albaahithah.wordpress.com/
http://gennemrejse.wordpress.com/Using a firefox 2.0.0.7 browser I see no difference at all between the font sizes in the two blogs in the sidebars.
Mark posted a brief list to a forum thread outlining the kind of details staff are expecting you to provide when you initiate your report. They include the following:
Make sure you include:
– your browser IE
– your browser version (IE6 or IE7 or?)
– your FULL blog address (not the name, the real address that begins http:// )
http://albaahithah.wordpress.com/
http://gennemrejse.wordpress.com/
– your FULL username
– your REAL email address that is registered here at wordpress.com
– and a very good description of the exact problem.The only way the font size in the sidebars will change is if you change the font size in a post and forget to close the font tag </font>. And that does not seem to be the case here as there are no posts in the blog as yet.

This… only happens when I’m using IE though to open them
I really don’t have any idea why this might be happening, but i thought the above line in your original post was worth highlighting.
Anyone else?

Thanks for the replies :-)
Time-thief, thanks for your suggestions.
Yes, you’re right- when using Firefox- no problems occur and everything appears normal, but the thing is I’d like both of my blogs- or more precisely the size of the letters in the sidebars of both of my blogs- to appear normal in IE as well.
Actually, even before I posted in my new blog (I only have one post as of yet), I noticed the change in the font in the sidebars. This happened with many of themes I tried :/
Any ideas folks?
Thanks in advance

You have said your browser is IE but you have not stated which version you have. IMHO there is nothing you can do to change the display for your readers using IE. No matter what, how themes display in various browsers will be a problem that staff needs to address. :)

For some reason the h2 around your (more…) link isn’t being closed properly. It’s working fine on the single page, but on the home page it’s a </p> rather than </h2>
I can’t explain why it would be malfunctioning before you made your first post, though. Try removing the h2 entirely. If that doesn’t work, post back and I’ll have another look at the source.

Timethief, I’m not quite sure :/ I bought my computer about four years ago, so I don’t think it’s a recent version. Is there anyway of finding out?
Wank, uhmm… Could you plase explain what an ‘h2’ is?
(Pardon my ignorance, I’m not very computer-smart)
Devblog, I tried clicking on the link, but it might as well have been written in chinese (no offence intended to anyone from China), because I really don’t get computer-language :/

Hi Universal
For your information, my flag doesn’t belong to or represent any particular group of people, rather it is the Muslim declaration of belief in Arabic (There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger), which all Muslims are unanimous upon. Simple as.
Now that, that is dealt with, I hope that people can keep a professional tone and address the issue at hand and not digress from the topic.
Thanks to all that contributed.

@gennemrejse
(1) How to determine which version of IE you have
With Internet Explorer open select ‘Help’ from the menu bar and click ‘About Internet Explorer’ from the menu. You will see the version of Internet Explorer displayed in the ‘Version:’ field just beneath the Internet…(2) The flags you may have in your blog are irrelevant when seeking support. IMHO you should simply fail to respond to anything irrelevant in a support thread. If you don’t then your original problem with your blog and getting a solution to it can be subsumed by personal dialog that may become unpleasant.
Remember this: if you have done nothing wrong then you do not require a defense and no one is entitled to an explanation of any kind.
I’ll deal with the <h2> as soon as I can. I have customers I must deal with now.
-
(3) The <h2> is what delineates the size of the font in headers. In this case the remarks made by wank are directed to staff and not to yourself. The remarks made by devblog are likewise directed to staff and not yourself.
-
(4) The problem you are experiencing requires staff help. Staff monitor these threads and require the following information to help you:
– your browser IE
– your browser version (IE6 or IE7 or? – instructions for determining which version are above)
– your FULL blog address (not the name, the real address that begins http:// )
http://albaahithah.wordpress.com/
http://gennemrejse.wordpress.com/
– your FULL username
– your REAL email address that is registered here at wordpress.com
– and a very good description of the exact problem.HTH :)

Please do not post your email address in the forum in normal format ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). Spambots will pick it up and flood your inbox. Instead, if you do post your email address here, please write it something like xxx [at] blahblahblah [dot] com

@ Timethief
Thanks for the suggestions (and the advice :-) )
I checked it out and I have version 6.
-
-
Ah ha … IE6 and now you know how to check for which browser version you have on any pc running Windows and Internet Explorer. :)
HTH = Hope This Helps
IMO = In My Opinion
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion ;)If staff do not help you today with this browser issue then when support opens tomorrow use this link to report all your details http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

It’s not an IE6 issue. I can reproduce it in IE7. The code is wrong in Firefox as well, it’s just that the browser renders it more forgivingly.
OK, I’ll try and explain mine and devblog’s response without invoking code. When you’re writing your posts, there’s a button you press to make the text bigger. (You’ve used it on some posts in your other blog, to make the line of text before the (more..) link stand out).
What you’ve done here is put the (more…) link inside the larger text. When you do that, wordpress doesn’t know where to stop showing the large font, so it just carries on.
Is there any way that you can remove the large text from your posts entirely? If you can’t figure out how to do that (I don’t use the text editor so I can’t help you there), try reposting them without the large font.

@wank
He means the font in the headers for the widgets and not the font in posts.
