Excluding Category From WordPress RSS feed

    I have been trying for a couple hours to exclude a category from my wp RSS feed without success. I am on WP 3.4.

    I have tried the following plugins:

    My Category Excluder
    Simply Exclude
    Ultimate Category Excluder

    None of these work on this version of wordpress. I have also tried to edit the functions.php with:

    function my_rss_filter($query)
    {
    if ($query->is_feed)
    {
    $query->set('cat','-1652');
    }
    return $query;
    }

    add_filter('pre_get_posts','my_rss_filter');

    ?>

    This also does not work. Any advice?
