Excluding specific categories from Widget area

  Hi, I am using the Ryu theme wordpress to document work done for school and have widget areas to separate the years. I added a new widget and want to exclude specific categories from it. Any idea how I can do this? Its driving me crazy! Thanks :)

  I don’t know which widget you are using. All widgets have their own support docs that clearly state how to configure theme and what any options are for configuring them and how to set visibility. https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/

  Well I have widget area 1, widget area 2 and widget area 3, then I have categories in them, but they all show. I tried using visibility to customize it, and tried to exclude certain ones but it didn’t do anything.
