Existing Domain as opposed to Mapping in WordPress
-
We own http://www.doboslawnmower.com via register.com. As of yesterday there was a website on it, while we were in the process of working on doboslawnmowercom.wordpress.com it has been removed (we separated ways with the company working on the website). We have a business plan with WordPress.com.
Originally we were going to map for doboslawnmower.com with the updated name records provided to us by WordPress.com (NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, etc.) The company who handles our DNS has issues with us doing that based on the fact that Office 365 sits on the Register.com DNS Servers and has several Office 365 DNS entries for us to work within the Office 365 environment (This is outside of the MX record for Office 365.)
My questions is this:
With no website on http://www.doboslawnmower.com as of now, what options are there?
1. Can I export the current website (doboslawnmowercom.wordpress.com), create a website for doboslawnmower.com and import into the new doboslawnmower.com existing on WordPress?
2. Is there an existing workaround which I have not found concerning this?
3. Any options, which I am missing that are out there which would resolve this?
In saying all of the above one of the concerns which I have is this: I would like Register.com to remain intact based on the Office 365 DNS entries we already have there.
Does the above potential solutions satisfy register.com?
I have looked through the forum for someone with this issue. But I did not see any solutions, so I posted.
Thanks for any information or insight you can provide.

Good morning Jeff!
Looking at:
Domain Name: DOBOSLAWNMOWER.COM
Registrar: REGISTER.COM, INC.
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 9
Whois Server: whois.register.com
Referral URL: http://www.register.com
Name Server: DNS010.D.REGISTER.COM
Name Server: DNS016.C.REGISTER.COM
Name Server: DNS036.A.REGISTER.COM
Name Server: DNS036.B.REGISTER.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 22-aug-2016
Creation Date: 23-sep-2005
Expiration Date: 23-sep-2017Your domain name currently points to a web hosting service that is NOT WrdPress. From what i read, you have a site here at WordPress. Am i correct in believing you want to make doboslawnmower.wordpress.com site your doboslawnmower.com ?
If so then all you should have to do is update the Domain mapping to reflect the new home. Here are some documents that should help you sort it out:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/all-about-domains/ good general stuff
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/ how-toYou should be able to change the configuration of Office365 in the comfort of your very own office. I am sure there is Office365 help available for that.
As long as you are exporting FROM WordPress and importing INTO another WordPress there should be no issues. If you are keeping everything here at WordPress.COM you should not have to do anything besides the domain mapping. You already own the domain.
Hope this helped clear all that up!

Thanks Dave for the response. It was my intention to do the mapping from the beginning when we signed up. Basically because doboslawnmower.com was an existing website.
As we were discussing doing the mapping the networking people pushed back (hard) because of the complexity of our Office 365 environment. They want it resolved in register.com. When we moved the website last year, we experienced downtime and numerous workarounds to get everything working again. That is their concern. They don’t want to do this if can be avoided.
What I think I am asking, with nothing existing now on doboslawnmower.com can I back out of doboslawnmowercom.wordpress.com and put the doboslawnmowercom.wordpress.com on the doboslawnmower.com within WordPress now? Basically start new.
Or am I totally missing something?
I apologize for my not seeing it. This went from a discussion on next steps to an all out “We lost our website” moment. :)
Thanks,

Hi Jeff
By mapping the domain to your site here at WordPress you should not have to move or do anything beyond the domain mapping, as long as what you have on doboslawnmowercom.wordpress.com is what you want your site to be. BTW have you noticed the extra com in there after mower? The domain mapping just tells the world where Doboslawnmower.com livesThe Office365 migration doesn’t look that bad, i bet even i could do it with these instructions (all 3 steps):
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Add-users-and-domain-with-the-setup-wizard-6383f56d-3d09-4dcb-9b41-b5f5a5efd611?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=USI was the webmaster for the third largest sport fencing supply company for a while and i know the “Oh no what happened to our website” feeling all too well.
The domain will take a little time to get spread around the web but that usually clears up within a day.
