Existing Domain Mapping
-
I am trying to prove to my boss that WordPress is a good fit but I need to build a test product first. I don’t want to interfere with our existing site and I don’t need a new domain. Can I map without interfering with what we have now? Should I use a placeholder domain? I don’t want it connected to what I’ve got already, because this my personal email…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, how are you?
You can mapping your custom domain to your WordPress.com account, please check the link below for further information.

Thank you, I’m aware of that but it does not answer my question.
I’ll try to reiterate:
I need to know if mapping my existing domain name is going to interfere with my existing site because I may or may or not switch to WordPress. If it will, then I need to know if I should use a place-holder domain instead and if I can then map it over later.

Yes, if you map your custom domain for your WordPress site, after the change, your address will be redirect to your WordPress site, so, if you don’t have the same content, your content for your old site will be unreachable.
In your case, I would create a site on WordPress.com, do all the tests and then do the mapping if okay.
I hope this is the answer you looking for.
