Existing domain name conflict with upgrade

Hi – I’m writing on behalf of my wife, Rev. Elizabeth Teal, who blogs at ministryofanimals.wordpress.com. We want to upgrade her WordPress account so she can simply have the domain as ministryofanimals.com. The problem is that we registered that domain at Register two years before she created the WordPress site. And we never use that one. We want ‘MOA.com’ as our sole website, and WordPress to host it. Do we contact Register to delete that domain name subscription so that ‘ministryofanimals.com’ will become a sole WordPress site as soon as we upgrade? Any other issues we need to deal with in order to do that? Liz is currently out of town, so if there is a response, please send it to my email address, (email visible only to moderators and staff). Thank you! David Dean

    Hello,
DO NOT delete your domain name at Register. You need to keep your domain registration current at all times or it will expire. If that happens, then ministryofanimals.com will stop working and someone else may be able to grab the domain and use it themselves. Your domain expires on 2015-08-24, so I suggest you renew it now at Register.com or set it up to automatically renew.

With that taken care of, what you’re describing is a featured called domain mapping. To set that up, please follow the instructions on this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
