Existing Domain Verification Unsuccessful
-
I recently took over management of our website from a previous marketing agency. The site was originally linked to their WordPress account. To regain full control, we exported the site and imported an updated version into a new WordPress.com account under our ownership. This updated version is currently live on a staging domain.
The problem is that the previous agency deleted their WordPress account, which has resulted in our live
.co.zasite going down. The current error message reads: Something unexpected happened while accessing this website. It looks like it doesn’t have an active domain connection upgrade to link the requested domain name to the WordPress.com site. If this is your domain name and it has recently stopped working, it’s possible that your plan or domain may have expired. Please log in to your WordPress.com account and review the status of your plan and domain. We are now ready to map the existing
.co.zadomain to the new staging WordPress site. However, as part of the verification process, WordPress requires an EPP (auth) code to confirm domain ownership. Our domain registrar has informed us that no existing EPP code is available, and they have tried to manually create one multiple times. Each attempt has failed during verification on WordPress.
Could you please advise:
- Is there any workaround to verify domain ownership without the EPP code?
- Is there an alternative method (e.g. DNS TXT verification) to prove ownership and connect the domain?
- Would it be viable to use a new
.comdomain and permanently redirect the existing.co.zato it? If so, would this avoid the current EPP-related issue?
Any guidance or suggested next steps would be greatly appreciated.
