Existing email list add to blog?

The group I’m helping set up this blog has an existing “mailing list” (email addresses) and would like to add these readers to their new blog without having to ask each person to subscribe individually. They’d like to upload a csv file or something. Can this be done in wordpress.com using subscriptions or feedburner or other???

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it cannot. Each person will have to sign up.

My suggestion, just in case they would want to move the blog later to self-hosted, or to another platform is that you use an outside service such as feedburner. If you go this way, on the page that gives you the code, do not use the script that is in the top box, scroll down a ways on the page and use the plain HTML that is in the lower box. The script in the top box will not work here at wordpress.COM.

Thanks for your input. I cannot figure out how to upload/bulk add email addresses to feedburner, only export them. More digging around to do!

Feedburner is the same way, and the main reason is that this sort of thing, importing bulk email addresses, is ripe for abuse by unscrupulous people. I think that is the main reason that there aren’t any import features on mailing list services.

I suggested feedburner since it is platform independent which means if you leave here, you aren’t in the same situation. As far as I know, everyone will still have to sign up individually for their service.
