Experience with WordAds?
-
I’m considering adding WordAds to my blog and I’m looking to hear others’ experiences with the program so far. I’d also love to see what it looks like on a real blog. Would anyone be opening to sharing their experience with WordAds thus far? Pros/cons?
Thanks so much!

The program has not yet begun. Moreover it’s not for new blogs. It’s for high traffic blogs and yours will not qualify for it until you have the required traffic stats. you must have good traffic (20,000 page views per month or more) to be considered for it. And brand new blogs are not eligible. Please read the comments as well as the announcement http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/11/29/wordads/

I have been using the Ad Control program since it began, and it’s made me less than $20 on a blog with an average of a thousand daily hits.

Timethief – I have read the announcements and they were not clear on the requirements, which is why I am posting here for more information. Also, my blog is not “brand new,” it has been hosted on WordPress for over one year. While you often provide useful information on these forums, you should try to be a little more conscious of how you speak to people, as your tone can come across as brusque and dismissive. I appreciate your help, not your condescension.
Raincoaster – Thanks for the info – is Ad Control different than WordAds? I haven’t looked much into the possibilities with advertising yet, I had just heard about the new WordAds program and decided to ask about others’ experiences.

Ad Control was Automattic’s first attempt at letting select sites advertise. The deal with Federated and the new WordAds program will likely be better than Ad Control is/was. As raincoaster mentions, revenues were piddly at best from that program (sharing 50/50 with Automattic). How much better it will be – it at all – is yet to be seen.
Traffic and site age are only two criteria; the subject matter of the site and the expected demographic are also considered from what I remember hearing.

Thesacredpath – Thanks for the info. I think I’m going to wait to see the “case studies” as promised to see the potential for revenue, what the ads look like, etc, before I decide to apply.

@raincoaster: It’s applications for the old AdControl program that are closed, I believe. Applications for WordAds are in progress (per the last link timethief gave above).

@kirabee
Although you did not provide a URL and there is no blog linked to your username I assumed this was the blog in question > http://hernewleaf.com/
I then checked here > http://www.quantcast.com/hernewleaf.com – “We do not have enough information to provide a highly accurate traffic estimate.”
Then I went here > http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/hernewleaf.com#trafficstats
As the blog has no page rank as yet, only 1 blog linking in to it, and the traffic is nowhere near the 20,000 page views per month required to submit it to the WordAds program, I posted erroneously assumed it was a new blog. I’m so sorry that I leaped to that conclusion. -
