Expiration data for unused domains?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi…while searching for domains I notice that many great names (<name>.wordpress.com) are already taken, but haven’t been touched in at least a year. Is there a process to reclaim unused names, or way to email folks who hold the domain?

    Thanks!

Blog names are not recycled, and wordpress.COM will never delete blogs now matter how long they sit. The blog owner would have to delete it, and if they delete it is gone forever.

The best way to check and see if they are willing to transfer the blog is to leave a comment. If after a week, you have not gotten a response, you can contact support and see if they will contact the blog owner by email for you.

  • The situation for blogs that have content but are unused or deleted is: they will not be reclaimed or given to anyone else, and that won’t change.

Re unused domains (i.e. those that have never had any content, particularly those collected by name squatters): we’ve discussed ways of recycling them. There are a few problems. It might happen eventually – certainly we won’t rule it out – but it’s not a high priority right now and there’s no work in progress on implementing it.

hmm, so if someone has registered a blog URL, but they have deleted the blog associated with it…what can be done?

    Anything?

  • If a blog is deleted by its owner, its URL cannot be reassigned to another user. As tellyworth has previously stated, this will not change.
