Hello, I had a domain (.com) that expired a few months ago. If I upgrade my free plan now, will I automatically get my domain back? When I go to the check out, it states wordpress.com as the domain which confused me (but that might be just to say this the domain that will be upgraded). Thanks!

Upgrading to a plan will not get that domain back, no, as that domain has already been removed from our system and we no longer control it.
When a domain expires it goes through a process lasting about 80 days, at the end of which the domain is released so anyone else can buy it. Your domain expired in August last year, and was released towards the end of October.
It appears on 1 November someone else bought that domain, so now they own it. The only way you’d be able to get that domain back is if the current owner is willing to sell it back to you directly. We cannot help with such a transaction, as we do not provide domain brokerage services.
The current owner of that domain has private registration active, though, so there is no way to obtain their contact information:
