Expired Domain and Content

  Last year, my domain didn’t auto renew and I didn’t realize that I only renewed my back up through Blue Host and not the actual domain registration on WordPress. It has since lapsed and the domain is unavailable. Although I no longer wish to have this domain, I am most concerned about the content. When I went to the basic/free WordPress site, none of the content is there. Is there anyway I can get this back? I am also confused as to how I am paying for Blue Host back up but the content is gone from the Word Press site. Is there only so much time before WordPress deletes free content?
