Expired domain – but still want to use blog under original free WordPress domain
-
Hi there,
I recently let my paid domain name expire because I didn’t need it anymore (was quite sure I wouldn’t want it again) and thought that in letting it expire my blog would just revert to being accessible via the original free domain. However, my blog is now inaccessible, and just gives a message that the domain has expired. I have tried setting the original free domain name as the primary domain again via my control. Is there any way that I can get my blog back?
Would be so grateful for any advice!
Many thanks,

While logged into the WordPress.com account that has the blog, on the notice that says “Uh oh! Your blog’s domain captainexcellent.com expired”, click the “Cancel this domain” link. If the expiration notice still appears after doing that, close your browser completely, restart it and visit the page that had the notice/banner.
Another option: Log into the WordPress.com account that you used to buy the upgrade. From your Dashboard go to Store > My Upgrades. Next to the domain, click the cog icon, then click the cancel link. Here’s more info about cancelling upgrades: https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
If neither of those work, add “modlook” to the tags for this thread to let WordPress.com staff know that you need assistance with this issue.
