Expired domain / new domain transfer
-
Our original domain ‘taleva.com’ expired and we did not renew it in time, hence we no longer have access. In the meantime, we have bought a new domain ‘taleva.net’ through GoDaddy. How can I retrieve the old website content and set it up on taleva.net? Is there a way to transfer the ‘taleva.net’ domain from GoDaddy to WordPress and move the old website content onto it?

Hi there, your domain
taleva.comwas not registered directly with us here on WordPress.com, but it seems to be currently registered with GoDaddy. It does not appear that your site was hosted with us on WordPress.com either; it may have used the WordPress software with another host (possibly also GoDaddy). As such, I do strongly recommend that you contact the host where the site content was, in order to retrieve that content – we don’t have access to it from here and without knowing where it was previously hosted we can only provide general suggestions for retrieving it.
If you did wish to use WordPress.com to host your site (instead of using the WordPress software from WordPress.org with GoDaddy), we are happy to provide suggestions; you’d be looking at first setting up an empty site on your WordPress.com account, and then importing the content once retrieved from your previous host.
We have some general information about importing site content:
- Content only import (text of posts/pages and media): https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-a-sites-content/
- Import a complete site (including theme and plugins): https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-an-entire-wordpress-site/
You can also choose to connect or transfer a domain you have registered elsewhere, to a site here on WordPress.com:

I was informed that the website was hosted using WordPress and Elementor. I thought that it wasn’t possible for Elementor to host a website, so assumed it must have been through WordPress.
Is it possible that it is through Elementor? -
To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:
1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.Since your site was not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise. But I can get you pointed in the right direction to get help.
You can look up your domain’s DNS history through this website:
https://completedns.com/dns-history/
You’ll want to look back to when you lost control of the domain, and the nameserver settings that were in place before that would indicate who your hosting provider was.
While it is currently possible to host your site through Elementor Cloud, that service was not launched until February 2022, so it’s not likely your site was hosted with them.
Best of luck!
