Expired Domain Outside Redemption Period
-
Good evening,
Hopefully you can help me. After looking through the forums regarding expired domains. However nowhere in the responses can I find anything other than links to FAQ’s. What I would like is the actual site I go to to renew my blog.
My domain plaintalknbadmanners.com expired back in February. I was under the impression that once it expired, I would still have access only under wordpress.com/plaintalknbadmanners the way I did with my previous WordPress blog. But the entire blog seems to be gone. Please let me know if there is any way for me to recover it.
Thanks so much,
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey plaintalknbadmanners,
Your domain seems to be in a redemption period which means the grace period is over. Now, you have to pay $80 as the redemption fee in addition to the normal domain renew cost.
Please read this.
Only a staff member can confirm it. Please wait for someone to reply.

Thanks for your response ravichar.
Unfortunately, that is the same link I’ve tried before. It only takes me to a page about fees related to late renewal. Can you direct me to the section where I can actually contact a staff member because it seems I may be overlooking that information.
Thanks so much,

Hi there. This thread has been tagged for staff attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Morning Folks –
Thanks for tagging this one.
plaintalknbadmanners : The free version of your site is here plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com
Do you want to proceed with recovery of the custom domain still? Or continue to use the free one? Let me know.

Hello and thank you Liz!
With previous blogs I’ve been able to access them using the free verion. But now I can’t even get to the renewal page. I don’t remember being completely locked out before.
What changed? At any rate, I will continue with the free wordpress.com site for now. Can you tell me the total amount to recover the custum domain and how long I have to recover it?
Thanks so much

Hi plaintalknbadmanners,
With previous blogs I’ve been able to access them using the free verion.
I’ve set plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com as the primary domain, so you should be able to view the site at that address now.
Can you tell me the total amount to recover the custum domain and how long I have to recover it?
plaintalknbadmanners.com is currently in the redemption period:
This means you will need to pay an $80 redemption fee in addition to the domain cost ($18) if you wish to try and recover plaintalknbadmanners.com. And the sooner we begin the recovery process, the greater your chances of getting the domain back.
While it can take up to 80 days for the domain to be released, there is no guarantee you will be able to register it again.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello and thank you Gemma!
Google doesn’t seem to recognize plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com. It now says the site cannot be reached. However, I was able to access the ‘dashboard’ once using that address. There was nothing there. No stats, previous blog posts, nada. Am I correct in assuming all of my content is now lost unless I reactivate plaintalknbadmanners.com? Again, with my previous free site, these issues never came up as I was able to continue posting content long after my domain had expired. Has that changed?
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
The domain plaintalknbadmanners.com is only pointing to plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com, therefore all your contents are there regardless of whether you renew that domain or not.
Also, when I access your dashboard I can see all the previously published posts (20 posts) and your stats are displaying correctly.
Can you please let me know if you’re still having trouble properly accessing your dashboard?

Yes hello fstat,
I still cannot reach my site using plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com.
When I type it into Google, it seems to automatically convert to plaintalknbadmanner.com so I get an error message saying the site cannot be reached. What magic are you using to see my blog?
-
You probably just need to clear cache and cookies in your browser. Have you tried using the full address: https://plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com/

Hi,
magicrobot, clicking on the https://plaintalknbadmannersdotcom.wordpress.com you provided led me to the same error message stating the site can’t be accessed. But thanks anyway. Yes lizkarkoski I cleared the cache in Chrome but it made no difference.
Interestingly, when I decided to switch from Google to Bing using the link address given by magicrobot, it led me to my blog and I could read all of my posts. YAAY!! However it didn’t allow any back door access to the dashboard, etc.
If anyone can suggest something else, I’d really appreciate it! This is getting maddening. :-/

**** UPDATE ****
I have access to my blog!!!! **doing my happy dance**
For whatever reason, it’s only accessible through Windows Edge but not Google Chrome. Why?? (rhetorical question) I don’t understand it at all. But I’m just so happy to have it back.
Thank you soooo much to all you ladies/guys who stepped in to help me. I appreciate you.

Google Chrome has its own DNS cache: basically when you visit a website you visited earlier, instead of looking up its location, it will just remember where that site was last time you looked at it.
Normally it makes your browsing experience a bit snappier, but it can take a little longer for updates like this to take effect.
You might just try quitting Chrome / closing it out completely and re-opening it to see if that will clear the cache for you.
