expired domain, retrieve content

  My domain expired, and I don’t necessarily want it back. But I am interested in retrieving the content. Is there a way to do this?

  That domain expired a long time ago. It all depends where the site was hosted. If it was hosted here at WordPress.com then an underlying free site should still exist. However, if the site was hosted somewhere else such as GoDaddy, BlueHost etc then unless you took your own backup then the content will be long gone.
  In that case your best bet is to copy/paste something from the cache held at the WayBack Machine.
