Expired domain so adding a new domain to recover old site

my domain has expired as it was linked to an old bank account so i am now looking to purchase a new domain (as i was wanting to change the name of my business anyway) how can i connect a new domain to recover my old website hosted via wordpress?

What was the address of the domain that expired? Was that site definitely hosted here at WordPress.com? If so then when the domain expired your content should remain at a free site here. However if the domain/site was hosted elsewhere and using the WordPress.org software then not paying for the renewal probably means that all content of the site will be gone.

Bear in mind that it will be wherever the site was hosted that you need to approach to see if you can recover any content from their servers. I’m sure that is what you will be told at https://wordpress.org/support/ too.
