Expired hosting issues
-
Hi folks, I let our WordPress hosting expire for a around 12 hours – now renewed, but a couple of outstanding issues:
1. Email that were sent to our domain while the domain was expired. Is there any way to access these?
2. Our email is fine now, but typing in our website address takes me to …wpcomstaging.com – any suggestions how to return this to the proper url? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there! 👋🏼
Email that were sent to our domain while the domain was expired. Is there any way to access these?
Generally, if an email is sent to a non-reachable email account (like in your case), the “sending” mail server will usually retry the delivery 3 times (I’m uncertain about the retry interval, though).
After the 3rd time, the “sending” mail server typically marks the recipient’s email account as non-existing, and the email itself will hard-bounce.
With the above, I’m afraid it might not be possible to get any email sent during this period. However, if the delivery retry period is longer than a day, you might just get them, but it will take some time before the next retry.
Our email is fine now, but typing in our website address takes me to …wpcomstaging.com – any suggestions how to return this to the proper url?
You will want to set your domain as a primary site address. Here’s a guide:
Your primary site address is the domain that people will see in their browser’s address bar when they visit your site. It is the address you use to promote your website. With a WordPress.com plan, you can set a custom domain as the primary site address. Without a paid plan, all custom domain(s) on the site will automatically redirect to your free .wordpress.com or .wpcomstaging.com site addressAnd, here’s the annotated screenshot of what you need to do:
