Expiried domain – New registration
-
Hello we are looking to register a domain that recently expired. The message on WordPress’ domain search displays the following – ‘This domain expired recently. To get it back please contact support.’
We are not the original owners of the domain in question, but we would like to purchase it. Can you please advise?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
I do not see any upgrades under your @aumpservices WordPress.com account when I check on our end. You can confirm by visiting this page: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/.
Is it possible you made your purchase under a different login? What is the URL of the site associated with the upgrade you are needing help with? Happy to check in our system so we can take a closer look.

Hi there,
As mentioned above, we are not owners of the domain, but we are interested in purchasing it. We did not make any purchases using a different login.
We did a WHOIS lookup on the domain and discovered that WordPress is listed as the reseller of this domain. We searched for the domain name in the WordPress domain tool and got hit with a warning that domain recently expired and we need to contact support.
The domain we are trying to purchase is pensions101.com
Thanks!

Hi there,
Unfortunately we’re not able to sell the domain to you at this time.
Expired domains go through a process lasting around 80 days before they’re released for general availability again. During this time only the original owner of the domain has the ability to renew it, and it cannot be bought by anyone else.
The only exception to this would be if the domain qualified to be placed on auction by the registrar, but currently this domain isn’t on auction, and I’m not able to tell you if our domain provider will be placing it on auction in the coming weeks.
It is completely impossible for us to manually release the domain right away – the domain expiration process is determined by ICANN, the organisation that regulates all domain names on the web, and all domain providers have to follow this process.
If you want to be sure you get this domain as soon as it becomes available, you can try placing it on back-order with a service like Dropcatch.com. As far as I know, that will also allow you to bid on the domain through them, should it go on auction. But otherwise the only option is to wait for the domain to drop, which won’t be before the end of July at the very earliest, and then register it normally as a new domain.
