expiring domain intentionally

  • Unknown's avatar

I intentionally let a domain expire, and clicked that I don’t need it etc. I want to re register it for a 2nd home renting web site. How long before it is truly available again. After several days, it still doesn’t show up as available on go daddy.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy!

This can take several weeks. Please share the domain URL so that I can take a look at the status :)

  • Good Morning –

It will take about 80 days from November 7th for the domain to be released.

My suggestion is that we add it back to your WordPress.com account for $18. Then you’ll be able to transfer it to the new registrar following these steps:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

In order to add the domain back to your account I’ll need help from our domain partner. Let me know if you’d like me to pursuit this option, or if you’d rather wait the 80 days until it becomes available again.

After a few days the domain will enter into redemption. Once this happens there’s an $80 charge to recover the domain in addition to the domain registration price.

I appreciate your help, changing isn’t critical and we can wait until February and save some money.

The site still works nicely as morganpondfarm.lodgify.com

  • No problem. If you’re going to wait my suggestion is to try and register the domain at least once a day to prevent someone else from getting to it first.
